From The Peaceable Way

The Daily Office Lectionary

Three readings a day, the Psalms in their turn, and a prayer for the week — following the rhythm the Church has kept for centuries.

A two-year Bible reading plan

The invitation

A sacred rhythm, kept daily

You’re about to begin a rhythm of daily Scripture reading that has nourished Christians for generations — a thoughtfully curated two-year cycle of readings.

The lectionary covers the majority of both the Old and New Testaments across two years. There’s no schedule to catch up on and no streak to protect. You can begin at any time, and today is the perfect day to start.

First, a word

What is a lectionary?

“Lectionary” is a traditional word for a collection of Scripture passages to be read at a particular time. Think of the English word “election,” as in chosen or selected. The Daily Office refers to fixed times of prayer throughout the day.

Each day

Three readings, in this order

  1. Old Testament

The long story God has been telling since the beginning.

  2. The Epistles

Letters written to the first churches, and still to us.

  3. The Gospels

Read last, so the day closes with Jesus.

The last thing you read each day will be something from Jesus, or something about Jesus.

Alongside them, a Psalm of the Day — cycling through all one hundred and fifty.

The church year

Not January to December

The readings follow the Christian calendar, from Advent through Ordinary Time — a calendar that tells the story of Jesus through its seasons. The app takes on the colour of whichever season you’re in.
